DBRS Publishes Updated Global Insurance Methodology

DBRS released its “Global Methodology for Rating Life and P&C Insurance Companies and Insurance Organizations” (the Methodology) after the closure of a public request for comment (RFC) period that ended on December 17, 2018.

This Methodology presents the criteria for which insurance company and insurance organization ratings are assigned and/or monitored.

The Methodology supersedes the prior version published on January 24, 2018, and is effective as of January 3, 2019.

There were no comments received during the RFC period and therefore there are no changes to the core content of the Methodology that was published for the RFC; DBRS, however, has made a minor change to the definition of the Financial Strength Rating (FSR) on page 5 of the Methodology to enhance the clarity of the FSR’s scope and application.

DBRS deems the update not to be material and has determined that no ratings are expected to change as a result of this update.
