DBRS Requests Comment on Proposed Changes to Global Insurance Methodology

DBRS is requesting comments on the proposed update to “Global Methodology for Rating Life and P&C Insurance Companies and Insurance Organizations,” which is expected to supersede the version published on January 3, 2019. DBRS deems the proposed update not to be material and has determined that no outstanding ratings are expected to change as a result of this update.

DBRS publishes on its website all comments received, except in cases where confidentiality is requested by the respondent.

The proposed update provides a simpler and more focused articulation of the existing methodology. There have been substantial changes to the text, but the changes are not analytically material and are not expected to lead to any immediate impact on existing ratings. There are still five building blocks within the methodology grid, but the wording has generally been simplified. The underlying rating considerations for each of the building blocks remain unchanged. DBRS believes that readers of the methodology will benefit from having a more succinct methodology. The methodology remains applicable for usage globally.
